PET BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS

We love our pets. They are part of our family.

But when they behave in ways that negatively affect our lives, bother our loved ones or even put others in danger, it becomes stressful, frustrating and difficult to live with them and can significantly affect and damage the bond and relationship we have with them.

Behavioural problems can result from underlying fear, anxiety, stress, genetic or learned components and medical conditions and can be complex to evaluate.

A Veterinary Behaviourist is in the unique position to diagnose both behavioural conditions and medical conditions that can cause or affect a pet’s behaviour. Oftentimes, training alone will not solve the problem and we require a different approach.

German Veterinary Clinic is the first in the region to offer a comprehensive Veterinary Behaviour Service so we can address not only the physical, but also the mental and emotional health of your pet.

Dr Katrin Jahn

GVC’s Owner and Head Veterinarian, Dr Katrin Jahn, is a resident in Veterinary Behaviour Medicine of both the European as well as American College of Animal Welfare and Behaviour Medicine, the first veterinarian in the Middle East to specialize in this field.

So, how does it work?

The first step is to book a Behaviour Consultation with Dr Katrin.

Consultations usually last for around 2 hours in order to provide enough time to gather a comprehensive history, observe your pet’s behaviour, discuss your concerns and goals in detail and then arrive at a diagnosis and develop a tailor made and achievable treatment plan.

Our treatment methods are based on scientific evidence and research and consist of environmental modification, appropriate behaviour modification techniques as well as owner education to provide an ethical, punishment free, welfare compatible way of approaching your pet’s behaviour.

If medical underlying causes are suspected, these can be addressed immediately, and suitable medical treatment will be recommended.

Veterinarians are able to address behaviour problems from a species-specific and developmental perspective with a focus on understanding your pet’s body language and communication style and are able to use appropriate, individually tailored medications, pheromones and nutraceuticals to best help your pet where necessary.

Your pet will never be subjected to methods that include punishment, startling, hurting, scaring or shocking them. We can alleviate undesirable behaviours in pets while treating them with the kindness, gentleness, respect and admiration they deserve.

Our aim is to help your pet become the very best pet they can be and to support and, if necessary, restore your relationship with your pet!

TESTIMONIALS

Janine Toutikian and Bruno

“Absolutely the best experience for my anxious pupster! We have been working with Dr Katrin for a few months now on his anxiety, but that was always at home and yes, I also recommend her for treating your dogs fear and anxiety issues. Today we had our first visit at the clinic for a full medical check up and everything was prepared so well for Bruno, from treats to cuddles, time taken etc to make his vet visit an amazing experience. He was super relaxed at the end, Dr Katrin and the nurse were so calming and gave Bruno time to settle in with them and nothing felt rushed or forced. Thank you for making Bruno and me feel like we are your number one concern!”

Thalia & Marcus with George, Milly, Lillu and LJ

With a household of 4 cats and the eldest having just been diagnosed with CKD, we wanted to have a behaviour consultation to ensure a calm environment. Dr Katrin helped us to pinpoint triggers, leading to aggressive behaviour and put in place measures to reduce such behaviour. Within a few days we noticed a difference, with less aggression and a more relaxed atmosphere. This continued to improve further as time passed.
